G1-Google Android Phone
Some news sources are reporting that T-Mobile will launch the touchscreen version of G1 (Google Android Phone)— this ultimate Google Android expected this year for the U.S. market—as early as next month, is this the Apple iPhone killer, anyone?

You can found more detailed stories about the G1 on Wired News, this G1 (Google Android Phone) described as a touchscreen phone with a full slide-out, full-QWERTY keypad, a roomy 5′x3′-inch display, a nice 3MegaPix camera, and access to T-Mobile’s nascent 3G network which, for now only run in New York included Las Vegas.

Backing up that report is the New York Times, which says this G1 final phone product will be built by smartphone maker HTC which popular with the Tilt, T-Mobile Wing, and the Dash, and that this G1 (Google Android Phone) will come with features that’ll “match the features of the Apple iPhone.” The Gray Lady also has a source who confirms that this shaky YouTube clip of the HTC Dream (which has been floating around for about a week or so) will, indeed, the G1 (Google Android Phone).

G1-Google Android PhoneThe G1 (Google Android Phone) will hit stores on September 17 for $150 (Wired News)—but only for current T-Mobile subscribers. After the one-week exclusive, you’ll have to pony up anywhere from $250 for $400 for the Android-powered phone. [Update: According to Tmonews.com, the G1- Google Android Phone/HTC Dream will be available for pre-order starting on Sept. 17; the devices themselves won't actually ship until October.] For now, no news on whether an unlocked version of the G1 will go on sale or not.

Wired news also passed along another rumor news—that you’ll need a Gmail email account to use the G1. Makes sense, given that the purported G1-Google Android Phone will be powered by Google’s new mobilephone platform. For sure the handset will also be able to use other POP/IMAP accounts, although there’s still no updates about Exchange e-mail.

Of course, these are all still rumors for now—there hasn’t been any official word from Google, T-Mobile, or HTC, although it’s been widely reported that T-Mobile would release an Android phone before the year is out.

If the news are true, the G1-Google Android Phone will doubtless be one of the biggest smartphone releases of the year, right behind the Apple iPhone. We’ve already been hearing rumors about the sleek Android interface, and the nice touchscreen display and slide-out keypad will be big bonus.

But here’s the thing: The G1-Google Android Phone or whatever T-Mobile ends up calling its Android phone will get slammed for T-Mob’s nearly non-existent 3G technology coverage—just two markets, versus hundreds for AT&T, Sprint, and Verizon. But, for sure this G1-Google Android Phone will come with Wi-Fi feature (like other HTC-made smartphones), but still, T-Mobile’s sparse 3G coverage will be a serious drawback.

So, lets wait for this so-called G1-Google Android phone to be launched!
